Car park payment machines and tariff boards have been discovered by card readers in a city.
Police said Bishop Auckland, the equipment discovered in County Durham, which were being used in a parking scam, were removed from car parks earlier this week.
Kieron Morli, the traffic management section manager of Durham County Council, said the scam was informed to the police and confirmed: “We never use these devices for any of our or off-world parking.”
He encouraged motorists to look out for any equipment that appears suspects, as well as the council as any QR code associated with parking machines.
The device was placed in Castle Grace, Victoria Avenue and Kingsway Car Park.
Bishop Auckland Town Council said: “The area may be more or they may manufacture it potentially in the future.”
Mr. Morli said: “We can confirm that we have identified and removed all battery operated card readers from the affected car parks in Bishop Auckland.”
He said that whoever faces or suspects the parking scam should contact the local authority’s parking service team or the police.
“As soon as we have been made aware of any issue, we will participate and will investigate as soon as possible that others can ensure that they are not suffering.”
