Grace Chambers of the age of 97 have become Europe’s oldest parkorner to reach 250 runs milestones.

He has just completed 5K runs at OmU Park in South Belfast.

Grace underwent heart surgery four weeks ago, but did not stop participating in the run on Saturday.

On completing the run Grace, it was said that she was finished “on the moon”.

“I am happy that I have done it because I always had a possibility that I will not, but I never look at things negatively, if I set a goal then I try to achieve it and if I don’t do it for the first time I try it again and again,” he said.

For many people, never feels like recovering from 88-year-old serious, aggressive surgery, not top in the running to-do list.

But Grace’s Pararun Yatra began when a staff member in her rehabilitation team, who voluntarily worked in Emeu Pararun, suggested that she could enjoy coming together.

With a little encouragement with one of her daughters, Grace went to do her first parrun in 2016 and said that she became a matter of this program.

“Everyone kept saying: ‘In the 80s, this woman said thinking that she can do a pararun.” Well I definitely showed them, “he said, laughing.

Grace became a regular in the community event and broke several records for runners in its age group in its first year.

“I just love it, all the people you meet, it’s just amazing – the people of the whole northern Ireland come and mix it in the Pararun and you did not meet all the communities, when I was growing up,” she said.

The former teacher, who accepted the hiking of the mountain and the love of golf, said that Kovid epidemic slowed him.

“I just went down and did myself anyway,” he said.

Grace recorded all his time and took his daughter to the Parrun.

He said, “I have probably worked over 250 parruns, but do not count during Kovid,” she said.

Now he has assisted his two friends Kathy and Suu around the course.

“I will not stay here without them, they take me to run every week and go round with me.”

A ‘local legend’ happy by Olympian

Grace now has a bench named after the Finnish line with AA plaque called “Grace’s bench, Park Runner Extraordinaire”.

In a specific week, you will find grace sitting on it after run posing for photos with your fans.

Many people have come to visit Grace for years, including Olympian Dame Kelly Holmes, who ran with him.

“Kelly wanted to talk because we were going to the syllabus so I had to say, come to Kelly, you are catching me back.”

Preparation for Grace’s 250th run hit a snag when she had a heart surgery four weeks ago, but she missed only one week during her recovery.

“I told that the surgeon I was going to test his work, I got a new valve, why I would not use it,” he said.

Dr. from Cardiology Unit at Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast. The Johnny Fair demonstrated the keyhole valve replacement on Grace in July and came together to support his run.

“He is fantastic and what he has achieved is incredible,” he said.

“This is really a will for him as a person.”

One of the volunteer run directors in Ermu Pararun, Didre McCowwe said Grace “has become a local legend”.
