One person died in the 50s following a report of a vehicle hit-and-run road traffic collision at County Entream.
The incident took place on Friday night in Balliston Road area of Balliclair.
In the 40s, a woman was also hit by a vehicle and was rushed to the hospital for her injuries, which is not considered a threat to life.
One person has been arrested and police custody.
A spokesman for the Northern Ireland police service said: “22:35 BST was reported that two pedestrians, a man and a woman were killed by a car that failed to stay at the scene.”
The police interrogation is going on and they are appealing to anyone who was on Ballson Road between 21:30 and 22:35, and saw the conflict, or drivers, who have captured it on their dash cam.
