A social media post by the Ministry of Oil, which marked the Independence Day, has triggered a political line, in which the opposition has accused the Modi government of distorting history and glorifying “traitors” by keeping VD Savarkar on Mahatma Gandhi. The Congress reacted fast. Party General Secretary KC Venugopal posted on X, “Every Independence Day makes a point to distort the BJP history and to exclude the heroes from the traitors.”“This Orwellian image, over Gandhiji, elevates the British Merce petitioner like Savarkar – who is the undisputed Mahatma, who gave us freedom, and completely abolished Pandit Nehru and Sardar Patel ji, shows their contempt for our freedom fighters.”“What else can they do except for those whose ancestors cooperated with the British and to sow the seeds of partition and hatred that bothers us till this day?” The Congress leader further said.Pawan Khera, the head of Congress Media and Publicity Department, also targeted the government, posting in Hindi, “Mixing ethanol in petrol, now you have started mixing impurities in freedom fighters as well. People who cannot become great in history, you are making them big on posters.”“The country is asking you for cheap oil, not cheap comedy,” he made fun of the organization.BJP General Secretary (Organization) BL Santosh responded to Khera’s post, saying, “The sick brigade for the core … Veer Savarkar lived and died for the country.”In the Lok Sabha Manikam Tagore, the Congress Whip wrote on X, “No matter how much you try, Mr. Modi, you cannot push Mahatma, Netaji and Bhagat Singh below the Mafivar. Those who retain the constitution should condemn this joke of justice and secular values, ”he further said.Tushar Gandhi, the great grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, joined the line of criticism, writing on X, “Petroleum and Natural Gas is a shame on the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas to keep the tractor and killer rider above true patriots and martyrs.”What did former PM Indira Gandhi think about SavarkarAmid the opposition’s criticism, BJP leader Amit Malviya highlighted his words of praise for him, recalling the message of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on the death of Veer Savarkar. He said, “Veer Savarkar’s name is a bioard for courageous and patriotic.
