The owner of a restaurant said that he shared footage of the “dine and dash” incident to raise awareness about the problem.
A group of young men visited Saffron Indian restaurant in Northampton earlier this month and ordered a meal of about 200 pounds.
The footage left him quickly as soon as the employees returned to the kitchen.
Owner Naz Islam said that the people who failed to pay were a growing problem: “It is going up and down on the country, which is why we put the video on our social media page.
“I have spoken to friends and colleagues in London and Cambridge and have said that they are not paying customers and just get out.”
Shri Islam said that it happened on Monday evening and represented 30-40% of the day, but insisted that he wanted to apologize to men instead of prosecution.
Tony Sophoclides of Trade Body UK Hospitality said that dine and dash incidents were “definitely up”.
“This is really unacceptable and let’s call it what it is; a crime,” he said.
