Swiss pilot Rafael Domjan defeated a record of height for a solar-powered electric plane in a flight, which took him to 9,521 meters, or 31,237 feet, his team Announced Wednesday.
The solarstratose aircraft on Tuesday created a landmark flight from Sion Airport in South -West Switzerland, taking advantage of hot air thermal to go beyond the records standing for 15 years.
The certified height for a solar aircraft is a record 9,235 m or 30,298 feet.
“Achievement” is one of the unforgettable peaks that define the great human and technical adventures, “Solarustratos Mission said in a statement. ,

At the height of hovering, Domadan has actually crossed the paths with a commercial airliner, solarstratos said, “This moment” is a powerful symbol of “what can look like dickboneted aviation of tomorrow.”
The flight of Domjan lasted for five hours and nine minutes.
“I share this moment of happiness with all the people who have been preparing for this achievement for years,” said 53 -year -old.
The data will be sent to the World Air Sports Federation Governing Body, which will decide whether to validate the new record.
The solarstratos team said, “This pressure is the height that has been corrected for the standard density height which is recognized as an official reference for a record of aviation height.”
Domjan – Whose Company bio Describes it as an “eco-adventurer” and lecturer, which aims to be the first to take solar-powered aircraft above pilot aircraft, gliders and helicopters-10,000 meters, flying at the same height as airliner. If that barrier is broken, the team hopes to move forward and create a solar-powered flight in the strateosphere, starting at about 12,000 meters in the latitude of Switzerland.
“This achievement is a major milestone towards reaching the stratosphere using only solar energy – and already meets the goal of the mission: to capture imaginations with fabulous challenges, the symbols promoting solar energy and our biosphere and planetary conservation,” Solrurtratos said.
The front-mounted single propeller plane, registration is made of carbon fibers to ensure HB-SXA, lightness and strength. The solarstratos is 9.6 meters long, and 22 square meters high-spec solar panels topped the wings in a huge wings of 24.8 m, and allows to fly at low speeds.
Aircraft, called solarstartos “Daring and fine engineer,” From up to 50 kilometers per hour, you can remove at a low speed. Its maximum speed is 140 kilometers per hour, while its cruising speed is about 80 kilometers per hour.
“Tomorrow we have better than today”
In 2012, the leading Domjan became the first person to leave the world in a completely solar-operated boat, A Travel started in Miami in 2010.
Adventurer told AFP, “It is important to display what we can achieve with solar energy.”
“The dream of flying is probably the oldest dream of mankind,” he said.
“My goal is to show to the younger generation of today and tomorrow that tomorrow it will still be possible to fly without burning any fossil energy,” he said.
He said, “This is what we want to achieve: it is really to show that tomorrow’s world can be better than us today,” he said.
On 31 July, a warm-up flight reached 6,589 meters, crossing the previous best of the aircraft in 2024.

On Friday, a first attempt was quickly abandoned when the aircraft reached 8,224 meters when the forecast thermal failed physically, saving the battery for Sunday.
During the first phase of record efforts, the aircraft has to maximize the growing hot air currents to climb to about 4,000–5,000 meters. After this, your battery has to be recharged at this height before climbing again.
Before takeoff, the battery should be fully charged using solar energy, and the aircraft has to land under its power – it cannot return to zero charge – and the battery has at least 16% charge.
If the flight is to be certified as a record, all the energy used during the flight should be produced by solar cells. The current record was set by solar impulses experimental aircraft in 2010, in which Swiss pilot Andre Borceberg was under control.
