A 30 -year -old man has produced in court on Sunday on charges of attempting murder and murder in connection with incidents in Downpatrick.
Huga Malon, from Belfast, but with a certain residence, was produced before the Nutounds Magistrate Court, alleging the murder of Stephen Branigan and attempted murder of the county under the priest.
Police on Sunday discovered the body of 56 -year -old Mr. Branigan in a house in Marion Park, Downpatrick at around 12:00 BST.
Fran John John Murray is recovering in a hospital after being attacked while preparing to celebrate his final mass before retirement at St. Patrick’s Church in the city.
Mr. Malon appeared through a video link from the Musgrev Police Station at Belfast.
He only talked about confirming his name and understood the allegations.
A detective chief inspector confirmed the court that she could connect him with the allegations.
Mr. Malon’s lawyer told the court that there was a clear and very important mental health reference for the case.
It was also confirmed with the PSNI officer that Mr. Melon had a suitable adult assistance during the interview.
No application for bail was made and sent to custody.
Mr. Malon is scheduled to appear again in Downpatric Court on 4 September.
