US President Donald Trump agreed to “multilateralism” to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Brazilian President Luiz Easio Lula da Silva after the “unilateral” tariffs were imposed in both countries.
Trump on Wednesday increased India’s tariff by 50 percent by implementing an additional 25 percent levy on his goods, resulting in matching tariffs on Brazil, IE, 50 percent.
In a post X, Lula said, “We discussed allegations of international economic scenario and unilateral tariff. Brazil and India are still two most affected countries. We needed to find out the possibilities for more integrations between the two, with the need to address multilateralism and the need to address the challenges of the current situation.”
Lula said that in an one -hour call with the Indian PM, the pair recalled the significant results of Brazil’s Modi’s state visit in July.
He also confirmed that in early 2026, a state travel from Brazil to India. “As an initial step for the trip, we agreed that the vice -president Geraldo Alkmin would travel to India on the occasion of the Business Monitoring Mechanism meeting in next October,” Lula said.
He said that the Brazilian delegation would include ministers and businessmen, who would discuss cooperation in business, defense, energy, important minerals, health and digital inclusion.
PM Modi and Lula also recalled the target to increase their bilateral trade by more than $ 20 billion by 2030. “By this end, we agreed to expand the scope of the agreement between Mercosur and India. We exchanged information about the virtual payment platforms of our two countries, including Pix and UPI of India,” Brazilian President said in his X post.
The leaders also talked about the successes of the BRICS summit in Brazil and worked together for the infection for the next presidential post of the block, led by India.
