New Delhi: The Patiala House Court on Thursday allowed the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack to talk to the alleged mastermind Tavavur Rana to talk to his family to discuss him to attach a private lawyer to represent them.Tavavur Rana has been charged by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in this case. He wanted to attach a private lawyer.
Special Judge (NIA) Chander Jit Singh pronounced the order in a closed court room.The court allowed a petition for a limited purpose to discuss the engagement of Tawavur Rana for the legal aid lawyer advisor Piyush Sachdeva.The conversation will be recorded, it will be in the presence of DS Jail, only English or Hindi, he confirmed.The Patiala House Court on Tuesday reserved the order on the issue after receiving replies from NIA and jail officials.On 1 August, the court settled an application of Rana, seeking a regular telephone facility for his family in view of the refusal of convenience by the jail authorities.Earlier, they were allowed to make a single call for their family.Rana is in judicial custody after NIA questioning in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack case. He was extradited from the USA in April this year.Earlier, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had filed a supplementary charge sheet against Tavur Rana on July 9, 26/11 in the Mumbai terror case.The court had extended Rana’s judicial custody till 13 August.The supplementary charge sheet has procedural documents such as arrest memorandum, seizure memorandum and other documents, Rana’s lawyer Piyush Sachdev told ANI.The main charge sheet was filed by the NIA in December 2011.On 9 June, the court allowed Tahwur Rana to make a single phone call to his family for a time. The call was strictly held as per the jail rules and under the supervision of a senior officer of Tihar Jail Officers.Recently, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) collected voice and handwriting samples from Rana, which were extradited from the United States.The NIA had earlier informed the court that Rana was faced with adequate evidence related to the 26/11 attacks. The agency argued for further custody, citing its practical behavior during interrogation and lack of cooperation.Senior advocate Dayan Krishnan and Special Public Prosecutor Narnder Mann represented the NIA in the proceedings, while advocate Piyush Sachdeva defended Rana.The 64 -year -old Canadian businessman of Pakistorigin, Rana was recently extradited in connection with his alleged involvement in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. The orchestrated disastrous attack by Lashkar-e-Taiba claimed more than 170 people and injured hundreds.
