French scientists have discovered a new blood type in a woman in the Caribbean Island Guadeloop, the French blood supply agency announced on Friday.
Woman is the only known carrier of a new blood type, called “Guada negative,” French blood installation (EFS) said. The researchers were discovered 15 years after receiving a blood sample from a patient, who was doing regular tests before a surgery.
“EFS has just discovered the 48th blood group system in the world!” The agency said in a statement Social network linkedInSaying that the discovery was officially recognized by the International Society of Blood Transfusion in early June.
Scientific association was still Recognized 47 blood group systems,
He said that a medical biologist Theory of EFS involved in the discovery told AFP that in 2011, “very unusual” antibodies were found in the patient for the first time. However, the resources of that time did not allow further research, he said.
Scientists were eventually able to highlight mystery in 2019 for “high-thorruput DNA sequencing”, which exposed a genetic mutation, said Perrd.
The patient, who was 54 years old at the time and lived in Paris, was conducting regular tests before surgery when unknown antibodies were detected, Parerd said.
This woman is “undoubtedly known in the world,” he said, “She is the only person in the world who is compatible with herself.”
The medical biologist said that the woman inherited blood types from her father and mother, which each had a mutated gene.
The name “Guada Negative”, which refers to the origin of the patient and “it looks good in all languages”, has been popular with experts, Parerd said.
The ABO blood group system was first discovered in the early 1900s. Thanks to DNA sequencing, the discovery of new blood groups has accelerated in recent years.
Peyrard and colleagues are now expected to find others with the same blood group.
“The discovery of new blood groups means to offer better level care to patients with better levels of care,” EFS said.
