A 13 -year -old girl has died four days after he was in difficulty in the North Sea.
Eddie Smart was drawn by water at the south end of Whitley Bay Beach at North Tenside at around 16:20 BST on 24 July.
The youth of Monkston were rushed to the hospital, where he died despite medical staff efforts on Monday, confirmed by Northumbria police.
Tinmouth RNLI and Great North Air Ambulance were involved in rescue attempt.
Police said the force was supporting his next family.
DET F Inspector Emma Smith said: “This is a very sad event and our deep sensation goes to AD’s family and friends.
“Our specially trained officers will continue to provide them the necessary support at this time.
“We ask that their privacy is respected because they start coming up with the loss of their loved ones.”
‘Sadly it was not enough’
A spokesperson of the Tinmouth RNLI said that its crew worked with several teams during the rescue mission, including other lifeboat stations, Belith Coastguard Rescue Team, Tinmouth Volunteer Life Brigade and Great North Air Ambulance Service.
He said, “Last week, our crew was recently called to one of our most difficult defense in memory, to try to endanger skills and courage from all parties and help someone,” he said.
“Sadly, this was not enough. All our crew ideas at Tinmouth RNLI are with AD’s family.”
