A 42 -year -old man is facing allegations of terrorism and attacks with the intention of killing 11 shopkeepers in a Walmart Supermarket in the US state of Michigan.
An attacker used a folding knife to stab five men and six women, including Walmart employee, on Saturday afternoon in Travers City.
The victims, at the age of 21 to 84, are expected to survive. The suspected, Bradford James Gile, is due to debate on Monday or Tuesday.
Investigators stated that the stabbing was random and they were not yet revealing a purpose, but they said that the charge of terrorism was appropriate because the purpose of such a collective attack was intended to bring fear and destruction for the community as the overall.
Addressing reporters on Sunday, Grand Traveers County Sheriff Michael Sheya said that the authorities started arriving at the store two minutes after the first call came.
“At the time of the deputy arrival of the deputy, many of whom were equipped with pistols, the men were facing suspects in parking and preventing him from harming and leaving them,” he said. “The deputy took the suspect into custody without further incident.”
He said that the purpose of the suspect is “yet to be determined”.
“With the help of FBI, our detectives interviewed him in length, and it would be part of the investigation because it moves forward,” he said.
Walmart spokesperson Joe Pennington said: “Such violence is unacceptable.
“Our views are with those who were injured and we are first grateful to the sharp action of the respondents.”
FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said on Saturday that the federal workers were responding to provide any necessary assistance to the local authorities.
Michigan Governor Greatchen Whitmer said: “Our views are with the victims and the community who are from this cruel work of violence.”
The Traveers City is about 255 miles (410 km) in the north-west of Detroit.
