The US Coast Guard said that a China-flagged research vessel was found on the banks of Alaska on Friday.
The Coast Guard reported on Saturday that Xue Long 2 was detected at North American Arctic about 290 knots a distance of 290 knots north of Alaska.
The Xue Long 2 is run by the Polar Research Institute in China.

The ship was in the US extended continental shelf, or ECS, a part of the continental shelf that goes ahead of the coast of 200 miles from the coast. The ship was determined to cover a distance of 130 knots inside the ECS.
“The US has special rights for the protection and management of its ECS living and non-live resources,” Coast Guard said in its news release.
A coast guard C-130J Hercules, a long-range monitoring aircraft, responded to the ship. The Coast Guard also released a picture of the vessel.
The US Coast Guard Arctic District Commander, Rear Adam Little said, “With US Coast Guard, Partners and other agencies, alertly monitors and US waters monitors the activity of the foreign government’s vessel and protects sovereignty to secure regional integrity and protects sovereignty against malignant state activity.”
