Wiegman is also ruthless.
He left former England captain Step Huton in 2022, and told goalkeeper Mary Years that he would not be the number one for the Euro 2025.
His honesty is appreciated by many people, but not all.
“Sarina has always been direct, she always says how it is, whether you like it or not, and it’s something you have to take to the chin,” said midfielder Georgia Stanway.
“Get the people around you that you need and if he gives you some negative feedback then you know that the rest of the employees are going to help you fix it.”
Kirby left for a starter in 2022, before the squad’s fringe she was told that she would not cut for 2025.
Brighton midfielder declared his international retirement as a result, but says that Wigman quickly learned what style people could handle the reaction.
“If this is not right for the team, it will be direct with you, regardless of what you are feeling,” Kirby said.
“But she knows you, so you have the respect for her when you have to have that hard conversation. You know that it is not personal, it just needs you more than you or need to do more for the team.
“He is only conforming to everyone, whether you have found 80 caps or five. Everyone is treated the same.”
White says that when Vegman took over for the first time, he regularly had one-to-one conversation and he often discussed analysis on the zoom away from the camp.
“She also visits the clubs, and the club communicates with managers. She will always pick up the phone for you, irrespective of time.”
“She is very acceptable. Yes, she is a manager, but she is a human being. She wants what she is best for you.”
Bardsley’s injuries meant that he had to retire before making an appearance under Wiegman, but had regular contact during his entire attempt.
The pre-golkeeper was given a six-week time limit to return to play and when it was clear that she would not make it, she called Viagman, which was “very sympathetic”.
“She is really emotionally intelligent and can feel that I was disappointed. It probably made her selection headache very easy, but she said a lot of good things about my career. I was just grateful,” Bardsley said.
“I loved playing under him. He took time to chat and I really appreciated it because he did not need to do so.”
But Huton did not feel that he was given the same treatment and he is important for Viagman’s perspective.
Writing in his book, Huton said that he felt that Wiegman was “very cruel” how he communicated that she would not be part of her squad for the 2023 World Cup.
“We were told that we would know the final World Cup squad on Tuesday,” Huton wrote.
“On Monday, I had an attendance at St. George Park for Nike. When I went back to the changing room, I had a missed call from Sarina. She did not know that I was there, so when I told her, she asked me to go to the canteen and meet her, where she told me that she was not taking me.
“I found myself surprised whether it would have been a face-to-face conversation if I was not already in St. George Park. Sarina told me that I would probably not play for England, while she was in charge.
“She clearly made up her mind, which is fine and I got to respect it. The problem was more that I think she intended to interact on the phone, and she knew that she was going to tell me that I was not at all in her plans. I thought that I was called to talk face to face.”
