The roots of Pride Month come back by June 28, 1969, when a police raided New York City Stonewell inThere were several nights with a gay bar, the LGBTQ patron and others, known as the Stonewell riots or the Stonewell Rebellion – a performance that is now considered the beginning of the LGBTQ rights movement. The march took place in Manhattan, Chicago and San Francisco to mark Stonewell’s anniversary in next June, and over time, it became an annual program in more and more cities. Pride Month first received federal recognition from the then President Bill Clinton in 1999.
Proud There are march and festivals in various parts of America and around the world, and New York’s 2025 Pride MarchHonoring the heritage of Stonewells, is scheduled for Sunday. There is a look at some events from here Washington DCKathmandu and beyond.
