Conservative party leader Kemi Badenoch is ready to reshuffle his shadow cabinet on Tuesday.
Sir James cleverly, who served in the government as Foreign Secretary and Home Secretary, is expected to return to the front bench as part of changes.
The Leader of the Opposition was expected to make small changes in the makeup of his frontbench team to change one or two shadow ministers, who wanted to leave the post for personal reasons.
However, BBC News understands that Badenoch has opted for a large shake-up, including the former leadership rival Sir James back to a high-profile role.
A party source confirmed the reshuffle to the BBC and said: “Leaders of the opposition will make some changes in their frontbench team today.
“Parivartan reflects the next stage of the party’s policy renewal program and underlines the party’s unity under the new leadership.
“Sir James cleverly, this terrible labor is expected to return to a major frontbench role to fight with the government.”
Sir James has been a backbench MP since ending with Tory Leadership Election in October 2024, after which Badenoch defeated his nearest rival, now Shadow’s Justice Secretary Robert Jenrich.
It is not yet known what the role will be cleverly in the shadow cabinet.
In April 2025, he received a nighthouse as part of the resignation of former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak as part of the honor list.
