Seven -time Grand Slam winner Venus Williams celebrated the winning 16 of the women’s doubles at the Washington Open after 16 months from tennis.
The 45-year-old former world number one, which accepted a wildcard for the tournament, did not compete since the Miami Open in March 2024-and the last won at the Cincinnati Open in August 2023.
Williams and fellow American Haley Baptists defeated Esney Bouchad and Clarvi Nagaonou 6-3 6–1.
Williams told Sky Sports, “It was inspiring to get out of here.” “I love this game and still enlarge it.”
She will face another American, Peeton Stense in the first round of single competition on Tuesday.
Williams, who was playing doubles for the first time in three years, jokingly said that she wants to participate with a 23 -year -old baptist, World No. 50 with a 23 -time prominent champion instead of her sister Serena.
He said: “I think from the first point I could see that we were going to be a good team. We should just start playing in advance, year ago, okay? I think Serena was just on the way.”
Venus, who does not have a ranking, won 14 major titles with Serena in the women’s doubles, as Williams Sisters dominated the game for many years.
