Cancer City Royals Shortstop Bobby Wit Jr. is going to play again for Team USA in World Baseball Classic next year and will definitely have a big role than last time.
WIT announced on Thursday that he is committed to play for the United States and Manager Mark Derosa at 2026 WBC. This will be of Wit for the second time in the team.
When in 2023, the team was part of the USA, Witt 22 years old, the youngest player in the roster and a standout halted came out of the MLB season. He was a bench player who had gone for 1 to 1 in the plate in the tournament and was also a pinch-runner in the ninth innings of the championship game won by Shohi Ohtani and Japan.
New York Yankis Slogger Aaron Judge, who will be the US captain, and Pittsburgh Pirates Ace Paul Scans also committed to the team USA to play in the next spring.
“This is really an honor,” Witt, who turned 25 years old two weeks ago, told the MLB Network. “This is something that I dreamed of my whole life. Just a few years ago it was amazing to be a part of that team, and now we are going to bring home.”
Wit was a runner-up for the judge in the American League MVP voting in the last season, when the Shortstop led Major. Wit hit 10 domestic runs in the first 80 matches of Royals this year with 10 domestic runs and 40 RBI.
Derosa said on the MLB network that he approached WIT during spring training about playing in 2026 WBCs, for which the player replied, “100%. I am starting, isn’t it?”
