The United States has expressed its reservations about the 2-state conference of the United Nations to India, which looks as a counter to the efforts to end the war in Gaza and ensure the release of the hostages. India is one of the 120-odd countries and the agencies participating in the conference that has been boycotted by both the US and Israel. The US urged foreign governments not to attend the conference, as reported by the agency last month based on an American diplomatic cable. Asked if there was any contact with India about the conference, an American embassy spokesman told TOI that Washington shared his views with India.“The United States will not attend this unproductive and sick time conference on a two-state solution in New York City. The United States will continue to lead the real-world efforts to end the fight and provide a permanent peace. We shared our views at the conference with the Government of India,” the spokesman said.France and Saudi Arabia were closed on Monday as co-chairmanship, the Foreign Department slammed the call calling it An unproductive, sick time and also a promotional stunt that comes in the midst of delicate diplomatic efforts to eliminate conflict. Spokesperson Tammy Bruce said, “Away from promoting peace, the conference will prolong war, increase Hamas, and reward its hindrance and reduce the real world efforts to achieve peace.” Bruce said that the declaration of recognition for a Palestinian state of French President Emmanuel Macron, which was before the conference, was welcomed by Hamas. “It reflects a pattern of reverse gestures that only embraces Hamas, encourages its obstruction of a ceasefire, and greatly reduces our diplomatic efforts to eliminate the pain in Gaza, free the hostages and lead the entire Middle East to a bright and more rich future,” Bruce said.India is participating in the conference, demanding a creative and further inclination engagement and is hoping that it will pave the way for concrete steps towards getting a 2-state solution.India voted in favor of an UNGA resolution last year, which announced an international summit in June 2025 to discuss the 2-state solution. However, the conference could not be held last month due to Iran-Iraq conflict.According to France, the conference aims to follow a route to a 2-state solution through the “solid measures” proposed by 8 working groups, which has consulted the UN member-states and civil society. The conference is also attracting attention to Macron’s announcement last week that France will recognize the state of Palestinian, the first G7 country to do so.The Indian Ambassador to the United Nations, P Harish, in a statement in the Security Council last week, firmly called for a ceasefire and demanded the release of all the hostages.India, which was one of the 19 countries that prevented the UNGA resolution in June for immediate and unconditional ceasefire, have been in touch with 8 working groups and hopefully they are expecting to provide their inputs on the 2-state solution during the conference. On the issue of Gaza, India continued to walk on a criterion between Israel’s important and growing relations and traditional support for Palestinian cause, including a 2-state solution. While the government strongly defends Israel’s right to defend itself from Hamas’s terrorist attacks, it also does not expect Israel to follow international law and target citizens. “India shares historical and strong relations with our Palestinian brothers and sisters. We have always stood by him and our commitment to the Palestinian cause is unbreakable, “Harish said in his comment in the council. The Ministry of External Affairs also reiterated the Indian situation in Parliament on Friday that India has always supported a 2-state solution, which is in the direction of establishing a sovereign, independent and viable state Palestine within a safe and recognized boundaries, which lives peacefully with Israel.
