Maharashtra Police has arrested 15 people and registered an FIR against more than 500 persons, which is involved in arson in Yawat in Daund Tehsil of Pune after a mob vandalism and an objectionable post on social media.
An official told PTI on Saturday that an objectionable situation on the messaging platform WhatsApp has also been arrested.
On Friday, communal tension erupted in Yawat village of Dand Tehsil of the city, where several groups of individuals vandalized and set ablaze properties on objectionable materials. A huge crowd took his IRE on the streets to vent and set a motorcycle and damaged a bakery, even the police advocated Tiergas balls to bring the situation under control.
Senior Inspector of Yawat Police Station Narayan Deshmukh said that 15 people have been arrested so far and sent to police custody till 6 August.

“So far, we have registered five cases regarding violence. Four cases are against more than 500 people who were allegedly involved in arson and damage to property,” an official at Yawat police station told PTI.
Police said the people involved in the incident targeted a motorcycle, two cars, a religious structure and a bakery.
After indulging in arson, the police had to resort to tearing gas shells and lieu-charges to disperse the crowd. Meanwhile, prohibitive orders are issued in Yawat and the situation is under control.
‘Preliminary report says that no employed conspiracy’
Superintendent of Police (Pune Rural) Sandeep Singh Gill said that the preliminary investigation has not indicated any planned conspiracy in the incident. However, he said that no conclusion could be drawn until the investigation is over.
Gill said, “By Saturday afternoon, the police have registered five FIRs regarding the incident,” saying that the person who triggers an objectionable post has started the violence.
The officer also said that the police quickly responded to the violence and brought the situation under control.
“A large contingent of security personnel, including the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), has been deployed in the village. Authorities also inhibit the Indian Judicial Surakasha Samhita (BNSS) Section 163 and Bharti Nyana Santita (BNS) Section.
Maharashtra Vice President Ajit Pawar also visited the site on Friday and said that the youth allegedly uploaded the objectionable WhatsApp post from Nande and is a daily wage laborer.
Pawar said that an objectionable post related to an incident in Madhya Pradesh, which angered the local people and used to resort to barbarism.
